9. A deep technology

Quackerjack and Megavolt followed with Sulphere there somewhere through the turquoise mist.
- So, we don't see anything! accused Quackerjack and looked grumpy. I don't understand why we can't see! What if we're lost!
- Relax, I'll help you find your way back to the ship you own, said Sulphere and looked at him. We're almost there.
- About what? asked Megavolt.
- We'll see, said Sulphere.
Now when they arrived, they stopped. They saw how a machine lay on the ground. That wasn't a small machine but a big machine - but it was long, too.
- This is called a deep technology, explained Sulphere. It was built two thousand years ago. Whoever built it, nobody knows.
She sighed and continued:
- Yeah, because I have arrived, so I don't know it. But on the other hand, I know it's an old technology.
- It's not moving, huh? said Megavolt.
Sulphere shook her head.
- Unfortunately not, she said. No one had taken care of it yet. I was down there, but I didn't know how. We can take a look down there.
She looked at the two.
- Shall we? she said. Otherwise I can help you.
- Well, why not? said Megavolt. I'll go first.
He walked past the two towards the technology, and he stepped on to see how deep it was.
- Be careful, Megavolt! said Quackerjack and looked scared. What if you fall!
- I will be careful, Quacky, said Megavolt. I promise.
He went down very carefully. He was afraid he would fall, he understood. Suddenly he began to fall, and he fell into the depths and shouted.
- Megavolt! shouted Quackerjack and looked horrified in depth.
Sulphere also saw horrified at it.
- No danger to me! shouted Megavolt's voice. I'll be fine! It does not seem to be deep as I thought about!
Then the light turned on. Now Megavolt seemed when he stood and shone with a small globe above the index finger.
- Here I am! he shouted.
Both Quackerjack and Sulphere breathed.
- Is everything okay? shouted Quackerjack.
- Yeah! shouted Megavolt and looked at the two. Come down immediately!
Quackerjack and Sulphere looked at each other. Then they nodded and took themselves quickly down to the depths. Now when they were at Megavolt, Sulphere explained:
- So this is it, guys! When we're here, we must be careful when we go there. No machine is allowed to get started until we have gone around and looked at what is available.
- And then? said Quackerjack.
- Well, then we can go back to the spaceship, responded Sulphere.
- But how are we supposed to take us up? asked Megavolt.
Sulphere looked around.
- There are no stairs, she said, but I think we can take us up with an elevator or so.
With an elevator? Megavolt thoughtfully thought. That would have been a good idea.
- Yeah yeah! he said. Let go then! We'll have a look at the machines for so long.
- Right! said Quackerjack.
When all three had walked around and looked at all the different machines, another light began to light. Quackerjack turned around and stared at the light. The light wasn't yellow but red.
- What now? he wondered.
He turned to Megavolt.
- Megs? he wondered. Is that you who lights the red light?
- What then? asked Megavolt.
- The red light, said Quackerjack and pointed at the red light. Is that you who turns it on?
Megavolt shook his head.
- No, he replied. How could I do that? My electrical light is not red!
Sulphere shushed them when she saw the red light come closer.
- There must be a robot, she hissed. I'm sure of that. Quick, let's go!
All three began to run away somewhere when the red light followed. The only thing that followed them was a robot, and Sulphere was right anyway. They tried to find a lift, but they couldn't. Instead, they were on their way back to the wall when they tried to get up. The robot was soon on their way to them and just had to attack them.
- We have to get up! urged Megavolt. Otherwise, the robot will attack us!
He pulled a cord out of the roller on his belt when he saw a post that lay up there. He threw the cord up against the post, and the cord clung. Megavolt started climbing to the edge, and he was now outside the technology.
- Take my hand! he shouted and stretched his hand.
Quackerjack grabbed it, and Megavolt pulled him up.
- Sulphere then? said Quackerjack when he saw Sulphere standing.
- Help her up then! said Megavolt.
Quackerjack did as he said, and he stretched his hand to lift up Sulphere. Then the robot started shooting a lot of red laser.
- Sulphere! shouted Quackerjack. Take my hand! Now!
Sulphere grabbed his hand, and Quackerjack lifted her up and pulled her. Now when all three had arrived, they got up and started running away.
- Let's go back to the spaceship! panted Quackerjack. Sulphere, show us the way!
- Okay! shouted Sulphere. I'll help you!
They disappeared into the mist, and when the robot came to the land border, it looked around and looked for the three. Unusually, it couldn't see, because it was foggy, and it would get lost. Quackerjack, Megavolt and Sulphere had escaped.
